Empty Pockets Are Not Proof of an Empty Heart

Dearest Reader,

I hope you have people you can visit empty-handed without spending the whole visit explaining why.

Empty pockets are not proof of an empty heart.

β€œI can’t afford it this time.”

Such a small sentence... until you see what it does to some relationships... πŸ™‚

And I do not just mean money, Dearest Reader. Sometimes, it’s your ideas. Your energy. Your time. Some other way you used to show up for them that you simply cannot manage right now.

It’s one thing to not show up the way you used to. It’s another to wonder whether the people you miss are simply missing what you used to give.

There is something that hurts a little about supposedly β€œnot coming through”... and finding that when you don't β€œmeet up,” they don't seem to know what else to do with you.

I pray, DR, that you find those people you don’t have to spend the year avoiding or explaining yourself to...

People you can still call, even when you have nothing to offer that day except the gist of how it went... or even... how heavy it is.

It is such beautiful peace to have them.

Maris Samuel ❀️
